Carnival Dunkirk
Dunkirk, a highly industrial town, based largely on its maritime and port activities. And it's these seafaring occupations - and more particularly the fisherman's - that are honoured during the famous Dunkirk carnival. This is an old tradition dating back several centuries, celebrating the fishermen who left their wives and children to go herring fishing in Iceland. For the first time since my childhood, when I still celebrated carnival with my friends, I got out my costume to document these three days of festivities with my camera.
